London Bridge mosaic
2021 to 2024, Producer of a landmark Public Art commission
‘In a River a Thousand Streams’ is a 57-meter-long public art mosaic designed for London Bridge Station by internationally acclaimed artist Adam Nathaniel Furman and created by 60 volunteers at London School of Mosaic between 2022 and 2023.
The title refers to the tributaries of the Thames, as well as the great mix of people in the capital city. The contours of the design capture the shapes of the surrounding built environment as well as the ebbs and flows of the River Thames. Across the panels, the pattern unravels into looser lines as it gets closer to the river. The work is made from two hundred and fifty thousand glass tiles in twenty-eight colours.
The project was lead by London School of Mosaic, whose team partnered with Network Rail, raised the money to fund the project, fabricated and then installed the work at London Bridge station. Sponsors include Arts Council England, National Lottery Heritage Fund, PwC, Southwark Council, Team London Bridge and The Shard.
