The Undercraft

2019-23, Development of a Capital build project

As a Director of the charity London School of Mosaic I was appointed in 2021 to oversee the building’s expansion into a 1960sqm large community hub and artist studio provider, using my expertise in urban regeneration and community development. For this my team and I raised £1.04m off the back of receiving the Mayor’s Good Growth and building a consortium of matchfunders. The Undercraft launched in 2023 after a 9 month building phase, transforming empty garages in the most deprived part of Camden council into permanent artist workspace. The project included:

  • raising £1.04m off the back of receiving the Mayor’s Good Growth and building a consortium of matchfunders (listen here)

  • commissioning reputable London-based community architects Public Works to develop a Feasibility Study in 2019 , which was awarded funding to develop a complete construction proposal with a Final Design review which I steered

  • overseeing the construction project including managing building staff onsite and value engineering a tight budget allocated pre-Covid

  • promoting and opening the new spaces, including onboarding 60 artists and 10 community groups to their new spaces

  • unlocking an unused space while ensuring the uplift improves lives of people in the neighborhood as opposed to art-washing
