The Undercraft
2019-23, Development of a Capital build project
As a Director of the charity London School of Mosaic I was appointed in 2021 to oversee the building’s expansion into a 1960sqm large community hub and artist studio provider, using my expertise in urban regeneration and community development. For this my team and I raised £1.04m off the back of receiving the Mayor’s Good Growth and building a consortium of matchfunders. The Undercraft launched in 2023 after a 9 month building phase, transforming empty garages in the most deprived part of Camden council into permanent artist workspace. The project included:
raising £1.04m off the back of receiving the Mayor’s Good Growth and building a consortium of matchfunders (listen here)
commissioning reputable London-based community architects Public Works to develop a Feasibility Study in 2019 , which was awarded funding to develop a complete construction proposal with a Final Design review which I steered
overseeing the construction project including managing building staff onsite and value engineering a tight budget allocated pre-Covid
promoting and opening the new spaces, including onboarding 60 artists and 10 community groups to their new spaces
unlocking an unused space while ensuring the uplift improves lives of people in the neighborhood as opposed to art-washing
